Communications and Policy Intern

The Massachusetts Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence envisions a world in which every one of us lives free from the threat of gun violence. The Coalition is a small, grassroots organization focused on ending gun violence in MA by addressing its root causes through education, advocacy, community organizing, and supporting our more than 115 member organizations.

The Coalition seeks an enthusiastic and curious intern to work on projects involving communications and public policy. An ideal candidate will be an individual committed to social justice and racial equity, interested in gaining experience with nonprofit work, gun violence prevention, public policy, and health communications. Prior experience in any of these areas is a plus, particularly social media and other digital communications.

Sample projects include:
  • Creating educational materials on the various types of gun violence, their causes, and solutions tailored for different audiences
  • Creating social media content to engage our audience in gun violence prevention work
  • Researching policy areas and current legislation, assisting with writing testimony and other policy materials
  • Supporting state level legislative advocacy work
  • Supporting public facing events like advocacy days, community meetings, and town halls

We are looking for someone who is:
  • Committed to social justice and racial equity, with demonstrated ability to work with people from all backgrounds
  • Creative, flexible, curious, and team oriented
  • Interested in gaining hands-on experience with research, public policy, community organizing, and communications. Prior experience in these areas is a plus
  • Willing to work on a wide variety of tasks and projects
  • Individuals from communities impacted by gun violence are strongly encouraged to apply

To apply, please submit a resume and cover letter outlining your interest in this position.

This is a part time position, 10 hours a week, lasting the duration of the Fall semester with the possibility to extend through the Spring semester. There is some flexibility with the parameters depending on the requirements of your school/program. The Coalition will provide a stipend that is dependent on those parameters. An intern will be expected to be in our Boston-based office approximately once a week.

The Massachusetts Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence is an equal opportunity employer. Women, people of color, members of the LGBTQ community, and members of other historically disenfranchised groups are especially welcome and encouraged to apply.
