Social Media Intern - Project on Prosperity and Development (Fall 2022)

The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide insights and policy solutions to decision-makers. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of more than 240 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security and U.S. foreign policy.

ACSIS is seeking to hire a full-time intern to join the Project on Prosperity and Development (PPD) starting end of August. Internships are seasonal and typically last 4 months with the option of being extended based on performance. Applicants should indicate in their cover letter their available start date and hours. The intern will be paid at an hourly rate.

This internship position prioritizes the program’s social media activities and the publication of the Building the Future podcast series. Preference will be given to candidates who possess extensive work experience using social media platforms. 

Essential duties and responsibilities

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following

RESEARCH AND WRITING (20 %)
  • Work with the Program Coordinators, Research Assistants, and Research Associates to provide support with written products through background research, copy-editing, and editing citations as necessary;
  • Conduct literature reviews, undertake data analysis, and provide other writing/editing support for ongoing research projects;

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES (40 %)
  • Assist in planning and preparation for meetings, events, and conferences;
  • Attend meetings and events to take notes on various topics related to international development while ensuring events run smoothly with minimal supervision;
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of the program manager and other staff members.

SOCIAL MEDIA DUTIES (40 %)
  • Publicizing the program’s publications and events on a regular basis using various social media platforms including Twitter;
  • Innovating new ways to ameliorate PPD’s use of social media;
  • Aiding in the planning, recording, editing, and publicizing of PPD’s podcast series.

Knowledge, education, and experience

  • Current undergraduate juniors, seniors, graduate students, and recent graduates;
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States;
  • Full-time availability for 35 hours/week (required) between end of August 2022 and end of December 2022.
  • Experience in professional settings using social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter required;
  • Must have strong communication and coordination skills and should be capable of providing impeccable attention to detail;
  • Must have the ability to manage competing priorities and multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Graphic design experience (e.g., Adobe Photoshop and Canva) is preferred but not required.
