COVID-19 Note:
Due to COVID-19, as a fellow you will work in-person, with some work from home available. All team members who choose to work in-person must be vaccinated and wear face masks in indoor spaces.
FLIA and Navigate the Maze to Achievement may move the fellowship entirely remote if there is a spike in cases.
Future Leaders in Action Overview:
Future Leaders in Action (FLIA) cultivates leaders and strengthens youth-oriented nonprofits through a fellowship program. Fellows, individuals interested in entering the social sector, work on-site full-time at a partner nonprofit to develop or implement a pre-determined enrichment program.
Throughout the fellowship, fellows gain various professional skills including time-management, communication, program development, in a fast-paced, hands-on learning environment.
Navigate the Maze to Achievement (NTMA) Overview:
Navigate the Maze to Achievement (NTMA) prepares talented and highly motivated Black and Latino students for the specialized and selective high school admissions process and supports the students academically and socially while in high school.
NTMA is starting a pilot program in Fall 2023 where they work with Brooklyn elementary students to get them into gifted and talented middle schools. These students will later join NTMA in 6th grade for their Hunter College program and continue with Navigate in 7th grade for our SHSAT program if they do not get into Hunter. The fellowship project will be building the elementary program in the summer for the Fall start date.
Position Overview and Responsibilities:
You will…
- Work remotely and in-person with the executive director in designing the program and curriculum.
- Actively participate in weekly FLIA professional development responsibilities including check-in calls and virtual weekly leadership workshops
- Attend virtual leadership training retreat and in-person gatherings with local fellows
By the end of the fellowship, you will have…
- Designed a program and curriculum for gifted 3rd and 4th graders
- Written one blog article for FLIA
- Completed a final report and video about the fellowship
Position Qualifications:
- Based in NYC-metro area with willingness to travel to Brooklyn school site or meet in-person with executive director
- Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved youth and marginalized communities
- Commitment to continuous professional improvement and reflection
- Resourcefulness and initiative
- Passionate about the social sector and youth education
- Use patience and tolerance to address problems
- Demonstrate integrity
- Demonstrate ability to work independently and in a team

No COVID-19 policies at this time from Navigate The Maze To Achievement will affect the fellowship.
