F220119 - Faculty (Open-Rank), Economic/Development Geographer – Geography

Position Summary:
The Department of Geography, University at Buffalo, The State University of New York seeks a tenure-track faculty colleague (open rank) in Economic/Development Geography to advance an internationally recognized program focused on linked processes of economic and environmental change in international contexts.
We welcome applicants whose specialties are related to any area of economic and/or development geography at the intersection of economic and environmental change. Areas of interest could include, but are not limited to: environmental factors shaping social inequality, health, and poverty; political economy of climate policy; development finance; trade, health, and environment; labor, migration and agrarian change; and environmental challenges of emerging economies.
This hire will be one of two new faculty members who are focused on the interactions between climate, health, and development. The successful candidates will have a strong interest in using disciplinary strengths to think across disciplinary boundaries and will be expected to contribute to the Department’s PhD program. Teaching will include geography courses at the undergraduate, Master’s and PhD levels. Normal departmental, university and disciplinary service duties will be expected. We encourage applications from candidates at all ranks. Salary and start-up will be commensurate with rank.

The Department of Geography at UB is nationally-ranked and renowned for significant advances in earth systems science, economic geography, geographic information science, health geography, and remote sensing. The department’s strengths lie in its national and international reputation for high-impact research in GIS, International Trade, and Health Geography, its diverse and highly productive faculty, and its success in training PhD students to contribute to the field. In addition to its strong Ph.D. program, the department offers a BA degree in Geography, BA in International Trade, BS in Geographic Information Science, and Master’s degrees (M.A. and M.S.) in Geography, International Trade, and GIS.
