Job Purpose
Career Coach provides career counseling to students and recent graduates needing career assistance, including assessments, career plans and guidance through appointments and presentations. Career Coach also assists with technological needs for the office. Reports to Associate Director for Career Education of the Career Center.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of direct student service experience. Master’s degree in Counseling, Student Development or Higher Education Administration is preferred. Some supervisory experience preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of policies and procedures regarding career services and higher education. Knowledge of individual and group counseling and ability to interpret assessment instruments. Must be able to provide supportive career counseling and advising to a wide range of student and recent graduates developmental needs in an inclusive environment. Good communication and writing skills required. Good public relations and presentation skills required. Database management, survey development and ability to work with data required. Knowledge of and ability to adhere to FERPA privacy regulations is required. Event planning and marketing experience a plus.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Must have the ability and willingness to assist Career Center staff with programs and events, and move materials and set up equipment for special events, programs and presentations in on-campus and off-campus locations. May be required, occasionally, to travel overnight to in-state and out-of-state locations for professional conferences and meetings.

Works with all undergraduates and recent graduates to engage in and discover how to make sound career decisions. Assist students to prepare resumes, hone interview skills, network and search for internships and jobs. Solve complex problems related to the transition to life after college and assist students to generally increase professional development skills. Provide individual and occasional group counseling to interpret career assessments such as the Strong Interest Inventory, Myers-Briggs and others.

Assist with the marketing of services, workshops, events, and initiatives. Coordinate with Director of Employer Relations and Office Manager to create and implement marketing strategies and materials. Work with other Career Coach, Career Education team and Career Center staff to update Career Center website. Assist Career Center staff with any needs pertaining to the editing and uploading of educational video content to social media channels and/or website. Update web files, handouts and guides as necessary.

Serves as secondary lead on drop-in hours (walk-ins and/or virtual) and fills in for principal lead Career Coach when needed. Provides accurate and timely career planning assistance to students from all academic years and majors, including serving as liaison for diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, such as “Launchpad.” Conduct associated presentations as needed.

Guide students and recent graduates on use of online job posting system (currently Handshake) and raise awareness of available internships and jobs in database. Help to market to students, faculty, and alumni. Serve as backup for vetting new Handshake account requests for students, alumni, staff, and faculty as needed.
