Job Purpose
The Associate Director of Institutional Research designs systems for, and manages in a senior level of responsibility, complex data related to the institutional accountability reporting. This position serves to support the Office of Institutional Research in providing a first-class reporting structure for national and state accountability reporting including IPEDS, and SC CHE. The Office of Institutional Research serves a critical function for the College of Charleston in providing data to the College community and external agencies.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, computer science, mathematics/statistics, engineering, management information science, data processing or related field and a minimum of two years’ experience with Cognos or Argos, Tableau, SQL, and/or SAS within a higher education setting is required. Working knowledge of methods and techniques of data extraction, analysis, and reporting is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires proficiency with Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to create reports in Publisher and to create visualizations in Tableau. Understanding of methods and techniques of data extraction, data entry and reporting. Experience using reporting software tools such as Cognos, Argos or SAS is required. Experience developing survey assessment in Qualtrics is preferred. Knowledge of national data sources IPEDS, US News, and CSRDE and the ability to compile and report data from these sources. Advanced knowledge of College of Charleston CMS and website development is preferred. Knowledge of Sharepoint is preferred. Ability to train others to use software and technology, in particular Cognos. Ability to manage multiple projects with shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to work well under strict deadlines and have exceptional attention to detail. Must understand the significance of maintaining data integrity and confidentially with student records; knowledge of FERPA regulations required. Ability to lead and direct initiatives when tasked.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Limited overnight travel may be required to attend professional development conferences and meetings. Some weekend and evening activities may be required. This position may be eligible for limited remote telecommuting

Directs the Institutional Research responsibilities completed by the institutional research analysts, including but not limited to: approximately 100 annual ad-hoc requests; the annual Common Data Set; approximately 10 annual, large media institutional surveys by collaborating with cooperating departments on campus; and the annual Planning and Reference Fact Book, a web-based and printed publication of approximately 115 pages.

Activity
Oversees authoring and reporting using the student information system for the entirety of the College of Charleston, primarily using Cognos/Argos. Completes or directs the completion of approximately 60 annual campus-wide student data requests for Cognos/Argos reports, including new requests and changes to existing reports. Provides training and technical support to campus-wide Cognos/Argos authors. Serves as the campus liaison between Cognos/Argos users and Information Technology during required Cognos/Argos system upgrades, including report testing and validation. Builds and maintains detailed documentation in Data Cookbook for Cognos/Argos student reporting.

Administers the following projects within the IR office, and oversees all aspects related to their successful continued operation: accreditation reporting; senior leadership and executive reports; complex external surveys/studies such as the Delaware Cost Study, CSRDE and Great Colleges to Work For; maintaining the OIR website; and dashboard development and reporting using Tableau.
