Accounting Specialist -13, Accounting Services (2701-22-17-30)

This position serves as the Department of Treasury’s specialist, technical advisor and expert responsible for serving as the state-wide expert for proper classification for general ledger posting of revenues and expenditures, and conduct cost allocation studies. This Accounting Specialist serves as the resource person for Treasury employees throughout the State providing technical expertise on accounting, interface and legislation issues. Also, determines guidelines for processing financial transactions into the state’s accounting system. The Specialist provides expertise in resolving accounting interface problems in the State’s Accounting System for the department. In addition, will establish and monitor test transactions in the State’s Accounting System. The Specialist is responsible for conducting special projects to research and implement new and revised accounting systems and processes.

Required Education and Experience
Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting.
Experience
Note: Experience is considered professional if the job requires a bachelor's degree.
Four years of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports equivalent to an Accountant, Auditor, or Assistant Auditor General including two years equivalent to an Accountant P11, Auditor P11, or Assistant Auditor General P11 or one year equivalent to an Accountant 12, Auditor 12, or Assistant Auditor General 12.
Alternate Education and Experience
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certificate (CPA) may be substituted for one year of Accountant P11 experience.
OR
Possession of a Certified Management Accountant certification (CMA) may be substituted for six months of Accountant P11 experience.

This position is eligible to work remotely on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, and must work onsite Tuesdays and Wednesdays, however selected candidate must have a safe and appropriate designated workspace or workstation for performance of work and secure and sufficient internet access of commercial cable or wireless broadband with minimum speeds of 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload. 
Work must be performed in the state of Michigan. If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michigan to perform the duties of this position. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed.
The Michigan Department of Treasury participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S.
Interviews may occur virtually using Microsoft Teams. No prior experience with Teams is necessary, as instructions and tips will be provided to all candidates scheduled for an interview.
