Job Purpose
Leads the MSPS programming initiatives, including initiatives and events designed to mobilize efforts to strengthen community engagement in support of students and ensures an inclusive space for intercultural learning. Acts as a visible presence on campus, serving as an advocate for the Office of MSPS. Works collaboratively with units in the Division of Student Affairs, and other campus departments that aid underrepresented students.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and two years of previous experience in a college/university setting working in multicultural or diversity programs. Master’s degree with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Student Personnel preferred. Experience working with underrepresented, first-generation and students of diverse backgrounds. Advising student groups, program development, and event planning/management, with experience overseeing student organizations, and knowledge of assessment practices in higher education, is a plus. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Multicultural Affairs, Diversity, Access, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice. A firm grasp of student development theory and cultural identity development is required. Ability to create a welcoming, inclusive environment and establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students and the campus community. Must be proactive and capable of taking initiative on projects, events and student services. Superb organizational, communication (written & oral), interpersonal skills, and present a professional image. Being a team player is required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), social media applications, and create visual text and imagery (i.e., flyer) to communicate events and marketing material. Knowledge of FERPA student privacy regulations required; capable of maintaining confidentiality of students, faculty or staff members. Familiarity with the College’s programs and policies would be helpful.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Required participation in weekend and late evening activities as needed. Occasional overnight out-of-state travel for professional conferences. Must be able to climb stairs and lift boxes or equipment weighing 20-30 lbs.

Plans and implements culturally based heritage-themed programs and events (i.e. Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month, LGBTQ History Month, Black History Month, Native American Heritage Month, Asian Pacific Heritage Month). Organize the Multicultural Graduation Celebrations (i.e., NIA Rite of Passage, Asian Pacific Unity Graduation Celebration, Hispanic Latinx Graduation Celebration), and the ExCEL Awards. Responsible for securing the facilities/locations, attaining contractual agreements, setup, and breakdown with on-campus departments, promoting event and event assessment. Markets and promotes all signatures events, and heritage/cultural programs offered monthly and throughout the academic year.

Collaborates with student organizations to develop heritage month events to foster a sense of belonging, create a more inclusive campus environment, and support students from diverse backgrounds and identities. Facilitates the development of co-sponsored programs by developing strong network ties with New Student Programs, Student Life, Residence Life, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Office of Institutional Diversity, and the Office of Admissions and student clubs/organizations. Plan and develop events for the Division of Student Affairs Weeks of Welcome initiative, Family Weekend, and other campus initiatives.

Participates in Office of Admissions Yield Events to recruit South Carolina students for the SPECTRA Program. Directs the AALANA (African American, Hispanic Latinx, Asian, and Native American) student recruitment process for the SPECTRA (Speedy Consolidation and Transition) program. Working with CRM software like Target-x and the Admissions staff to revise and generate letters and emails sent by a specific schedule to accepted AALANA students as one of the main recruitment tools for SPECTRA. Oversees the SPECTRA recruitment materials sent to prospective students. Serves as liaison to New Student Programs and other offices that provide support to SPECTRA students. Oversees the on-line SPECTRA application process and ensures that all applications are delivered to Director for review and acceptance to the SPECTRA program. Oversees the mailing and return of CofC legal forms prior to SPECTRA program. Coordinates, collects, organizes program participants forms prior to students’ arrival on campus for program. Works with New Student Programs’ staff to ensure prospective SPECTRA students attend orientation sessions prior to their enrollment in SPECTRA. Oversees the SPECTRA Program calling and chat recruitment sessions with the assistance of the Office of Admissions, SPECTRA LEADers, and Student Ambassadors. Maintain regular contact (email, phone, etc.) with students and provides them with information as needed. Serves as point of contact for parents and students. Enrolls 100-105 students for the annual summer program.

Activity
Supports the efforts of the College’s Office of Admissions with underrepresented student recruitment by attending College Application Day events, as assigned. Plans student social for high school junior/senior who participate in the Office of Admissions Annual M.O.V.E. events. Represents MSPS during orientation information sessions to groups and other conferences to aid with the adjustment of underrepresented students to college life experiences.
