Broadcast News Reporter Internship

Internship Program at NewTV’s Newton News

Newton News is proud to announce an internship program at NewTV enabling students to get the hands-on, one-man band experience necessary to enter the broadcast journalism world.  The program is open to all students who are majoring in Journalism, English, or Communications. You’ll be shooting, writing, and editing stories for the weekly newscast.  Students may also earn college credit depending upon the specifications of their particular school or can volunteer for non-credit.  Students will learn non-linear editing using Final Cut Pro/Adobe Premiere and will shoot with the tapeless JVC HM850U camera.  Prior technical experience is a bonus but not a requirement.  The ability to write stories in a clear, concise, and compelling manner is extremely important.  This is a great opportunity to have a resume reel ready by the time you finish your internship.  Become part of the Newton News team and see where it will take you.

The details:
-       This is a 3-month or full semester program.
-       12-15 hours per week.  Hours are flexible but must work at least that many hours per week including nights and weekends.
-       You’ll be expected to produce at least one news story per week, with an average length of 2 to 2 ½ minutes but that length may vary.  Additionally, you may be asked to assist with the production of other NewTV programs.
-       The first day will primarily consist of learning to use the JVC HM850U camera and editing with Final Cut Pro/Adobe Premiere.
-       The program terminates at the end of your semester.
-       Applicants must have their own vehicles since many assignments are in the field and not easily accessible via public transportation.
