Pre-Law Fellow
Steptoe, an Am Law 100 firm, located in the heart of Dupont Circle, is accepting applications for its Steptoe Pre-Law Fellowship Program. Applicants can be based in any of the firm’s U.S. offices: Washington, DC; New York; Chicago; Los Angeles; or San Francisco.
Pre-Law Fellows / Project Assistants will be hired for up to a two-year period as full-time employees and adhere to the Firm’s rules, policies and procedures. This program will be in the Practice Support team with enrichment provided by Legal Talent.

Pre-Law Fellows / Project Assistants will have an opportunity to support one of our many practice areas and get a feel of what it’s like to work in a law firm environment. Pre-Law Fellows / Project Assistants will also participate in enrichment opportunities. Sample enrichment opportunities are expected to include:
- “Lunch and Learns” with law firm partners, associates, and senior leadership
- Field trips to courthouses and other law-related locations
- Participation in Summer Associate Program events as appropriate
- Shadowing attorneys or paralegals in depositions, hearings, trials, closings, client meetings, and more
- Attendance at training programs as appropriate
- Participation in firmwide events
Requirements
Pre-Law Fellows / Project Assistants must have completed a four-year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited institution or equivalent. Pre-Law Fellows / Project Assistants are expected to have served as leaders in their communities and institutions, as well as to have earned a minimum G.P.A. of 3.5.
Pre-Law Fellows / Project Assistants must have a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in law.

As part of their candidacy, Pre-Law Fellow / Project Assistant applicants must submit:

- College transcript
- Statement of interest in the legal field (500-word limit, including whether your interest is in a specific practice group or in more general law practice and law firm operations)
- Letter of recommendation from a dean, professor, judge, or practicing attorney
Pre-Law Fellows / Project Assistants can be hired year-round.
This role is a non-exempt position that can be based in any of our U.S. offices (Washington, DC; New York; Chicago; Los Angeles; and San Francisco) and serves all offices. The work schedule for this role is 9:00 am to 5:30 pm (Monday-Friday), with additional hours as required. Some travel may be required. Must be able to comply with all safety requirements in our workplace, which may include provision of proof of full vaccination for COVID-19 and adherence to other safety protocols implemented.
