Sudan Analyst

Overview

We are looking for Analysts with experience in data science and fluency in a critical language who are interested in the nexus of corporate crime and armed violence to join our Conflict Affected States program. Our team at C4ADS is pioneering new approaches in the use of emerging technology and publicly available information for the missions of human security and accountability. As an Analyst, you’ll play a driving role in this effort. You will build and field new tech and methodologies to identify the networks that finance and profit from armed violence, and work with a diverse coalition of partners from government and civil society to hold these networks accountable. You will steer the strategy and impact of our projects, and develop new ones. You’ll get in-depth training and hands-on experience with advanced methods and cutting-edge tech. What You’ll Do:

  • Learn and apply advanced data science and investigative methods to conduct detailed analysis of transnational illicit networks
  • Use native or professional-level proficiency in Farsi, Burmese, Russian, or Pashto to find, collect, and analyze high value datasets for related projects
  • Produce a range of analytical products from public reports to private dossiers for a wide audience, including law enforcement, regulatory agencies, and multinational organizations
  • Travel around the world to meet with partners and collaborate
  • Represent C4ADS by briefing analysis externally, including to senior decision-makers, and at high-level public forums
  • Regularly use advanced technologies like Palantir to support research and analysis

  • Self-motivated, strategic thinker with the initiative and drive to seize opportunities, but the attention to detail to connect the analytical dots
  • Proven experience in using technology to analyze unstructured data
  • Prior overseas work and/or relevant research experience in using non-English sources to conduct analysis on illicit networks
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field, be it international relations, computer science, or a foreign language
  • Native or professional-level fluency in Arabic
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness to travel at short notice, including to high-risk environments

  • Advanced proficiency or fluency in additional languages including BurmeseFarsi, Russian, Pashto, French, or Portuguese
  • Master’s degree in a related field
