Aquatics Director

The Cambridge YMCA is looking for a qualified and enthusiastic Aquatics Director to join our team!

Job Summary

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Aquatics Director leads all aspects of Aquatic programming for the Cambridge Y, ensuring our cause and culture is instilled in our strategy and staff development.
To thrive in this role you must have a background of progressive aquatics experience leading to the oversight and management of multiple team members, previous experience maintaining the functions of an aquatics department, and the ability to successfully prioritize and respond to a variety of tasks including the emergency response to members and visitors in the pool. You must have the ability to engage and direct others as well as provide instructions and assessments to staff and members in the pool.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or commensurate work experience.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • 3-5 years or relevant experience, preferably in a leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrated leadership, dependability & flexibility in work hours.
  • Current USA Swimming and or YMCA Swim coach credentials. Certified Pool Operator CPO, CPR, AED, Basic First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Enthusiastic presence and ability to appropriately encourage and guide youth and adults to reach their goals.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check.

Essential Functions

  • Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. On-boards and develops them for success. Conducts life guarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings. Ensure records of staff certifications are up-to-date and complete.
  • Manages the program, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistic to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in program; securing and scheduling the pool facilities; and creating and scheduling the group and private lessons.
  • Create and lead a culture that provides an excellent participant experience by leading quality programs and services, including but not limited to, aquatics classes, aquatic open times, vacation programs, and special events.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  • All other duties as directed or required for the overall success of the organization.
