2023 Summer Associate Internship: Internal Audit, Risk and Compliance

POSITION SUMMARY:
The 10-week summer internship program is designed to challenge students by providing opportunities to provide hand-on experiences, skills training and valuable professional networking to assist students with identifying and building on their career interests. This role gains experience and an overall feel for the company and the financial services industry by attending meetings, delivering presentations, exploring business-specific tasks, and working closely with cross-functional groups to better understand the TIAA businesses. 
The program includes a robust training and onboarding program followed by our ongoing speaker series, lunch-and-learns, and cohort engagement activities, as well as direct access to executive and senior leadership, mentors and previous interns.
Eligible interns may receive a full-time offer to join our Early Talent Rotational Program or various open positions within the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
You will have the opportunity to work in one of the below exciting business areas including but not limited to:
 
Internal Audit
Works on problems of diverse scope performing financial, operational and integrated audits of the company's operations using the organization's risk-based internal auditing methodology.
Analyzes audit data and observations and documents audit conclusions and findings.
Assists in the preparation of work papers, which are subject to review by audit management.
Reviews and evaluates control structures to determine the adequacy of internal controls, operating efficiency and customer service.
Performs tests of records and accounts and verifies compliance with regulations and sound business practices.
 
Areas of focus: accounting, finance, economics, information systems/technology, computer science, data analytics
 
Compliance
Work on problems of diverse scope that assist with the continuing development of compliance functions, using the Company's risk-based Compliance Risk Management methodology.
Understand the pertinent regulations impacting particular businesses by spending time in each area.
Analyze compliance metrics and enhance writing skills for report preparation.
 
Areas of focus: finance, economics, data analytics, law, business, regulatory affairs, risk management and insurance.
 
Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)
Summer Analysts will support business-specific and enterprise areas of ERM while working on an exciting mix of strategically-aligned challenging assignments and projects that help drive the achievement of the organization’s strategy and mission. Specifically, the intern will:
Support Risk leadership in implementing and embedding the risk framework and processes for defining, assessing, measuring, monitoring and reporting risks in various business units and support areas while gaining risk management experience and expertise in the usage of the tools
Support special projects related to the maturation of ERM programs
Help facilitate various business needs such as data analysis and risk report creation
Assist in the collection of data that may pertain to specific market, business or competitive analyses
Assist in the management of project plans (including project timelines, data requirements, specific steps)
 
Areas of focus: finance, economics, data analytics, law, business, regulatory affairs, risk management and insurance.
 
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Full-time student, currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's degree
Graduation date range of December 2023- May 2025 (including masters)
 
DESIRED SKILLS (Preferred not required):
Minimum Overall GPA of 3.0 or better
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in related fields accounting, finance, economics, information systems/technology, computer science, data analytics, law, business, regulatory affairs, risk management and insurance (see above for program-specific breakdowns).
Excellent communication, presentation, problem solving/analytical skills
Proven ability to prioritize tasks and deliver on commitments
Previous internship or work experience a plus
Demonstrated interest within the investment management industry is preferred
Independent and original thinker
Self-discipline and self-motivation
Strong level of integrity with an entrepreneurial spirit
Minimum of 2 years of working knowledge or academic experience in using Microsoft Office products or similar products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
