Nutrition Education Program Director
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Nutrition Education Program Director is responsible for the management of overall operations including planning, implementing, and evaluating nutrition education in accordance with state policies and federal guidelines. This position entails responsibilities in the areas of programming, collaboration, and administrative work. The Program Director ensures collaboration with tribal agencies and programs to provide nutrition education to low-income residents (targeting FoodShare Wisconsin participants) in a culturally relevant manner. Daily attendance is an essential job function. Travel required as necessary.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
· Provide leadership and direction for the Nutrition Education program serving designated Native American tribes.
· Plan, implement and teach culturally relevant educational programs for low-income families and individuals including choosing healthful foods, food safety and storage, food buying, and managing food budgets.
· Assist with community assessment related to nutrition education. Collaborate with program-related community coalitions and partnerships.
· Develop program outcomes based on knowledge of behavior changes and education principles.
· Develop nutrition education assessment tools to measure program goal achievement.
· Work closely with participating Tribes and other health and human service departments in the effective execution of goals and objectives of the program.
· Develop necessary work plans; train site staff; develop contracts for services with participating Tribes.
· Ensure compliance through proper monitoring and reporting by maintaining and punctually submitting accurate work records, travel expenses, and program information.
· Develop and administer program budget and approve expenditures in accordance with program requirements.
· Conduct regular on-site visitations to monitor the progress of program implementation and to offer support and assistance to ensure program success.
· Develop and submit progress reports to appropriate agencies as necessary to comply with program and grant funding requirements.
· Assure that all nutrition education services are delivered in a family centered, culturally competent manner.
· Identify and organize continuing education activities for nutrition educators. Prepare and conduct presentations.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
· Serve as a technical resource for staff and other Agency personnel on the Nutrition Education program.
· Carry out nutrition education at various sites. Routinely review and update current nutrition information, trends, and data.
· Engage in ongoing networking activities to remain current on the availability of health and human services available to Native Americans.
· Technology and Social Media skillset, to include literacy, understanding, working knowledge and the ability to develop Social Media platforms as needed.
· Participate on various committees both within and external to the Agency as deemed necessary and appropriate to the position.
· Seek additional funding sources on an ongoing basis.
· Attend all training sessions and meetings as scheduled.
· Perform other duties deemed necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
This is a full-time salary/exempt opportunity with a primary worksite of Lac du Flambeau, WI. This is not a remote position. Requires frequent travel for the purposes of attending community and program related activities. This position has a salary range of $24.70 - $26.75 per hour (based on experience) with benefits including Annual/Personal Leave, Holiday Pay, Health, Dental, Life, STD and LTD Insurance, FSA and 401(k) Retirement Plan. Background check and drug screen are required before employment.
Qualifications: An equivalent combination of experience and education that would provide the required knowledge and abilities may be considered. Required: Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Nutrition Science, community or public health, or related field. Previous experience related to food and nutrition education. Minimum three years of experience in public health nutrition and/or nutrition management. Preferred: Demonstrated skill in ability to plan, implement and teach. Experience with Native American Tribal organizations and/or not-for-profit agency desirable. Grant writing and funding experience. Individual must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; professional demeanor and appearance; problem solving skills; ability to manage time effectively; self-motivation skills; work effectively under pressure; ability to build positive work relationships with internal and external customers; ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of people. Individual must be able to apply advanced reasoning skills to problem solving and use basic and advanced mathematical skills. Must possess valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation with adequate insurance and ability to travel.
