Accounting and Finance Officer

We currently seek an Accounting and Finance Officer who will work closely with the Chief Operations Officer/Senior Vice President of Finance to ensure the fiscal health of the organization through performing and managing daily/monthly financial bookkeeping activities, preparing and monitoring budgets, producing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with government requirements. The Accounting and Finance Officer is expected to be personable, highly motivated, detail oriented, and principled. He or she must possess a strong work ethic and be able to work independently, multi-task, and meet deadlines. The highest degree of personal responsibility, accountability, and honesty is expected. The Accounting and Finance Officer reports directly to the Chief Operations Officer/Senior Vice President of Finance and, ultimately, to ACTA’s President/Chief Executive Officer.
 
Specifically, the Accounting and Finance Officer is responsible for:
•         Performing and managing general accounting tasks, including: recording account receivables/payables activity; reconciling and maintaining balance sheet and general ledger operations; preparing general journal entries; performing ACH payments and bank transactions; and preparing monthly bank reconciliations and financial reports.
•         Identifying and resolving invoicing issues, accounting discrepancies, and other financial related issues.
•         Assisting the COO/Sr. VP of Finance in preparing and monitoring ACTA’s annual budget.
•         Working with individual department heads to prepare and monitor departmental budgets and budgets for restricted grants.
•         Analyzing financial data and preparing financial reports for management and the board of directors.
•         Ensuring proper and complete supporting documentation is maintained for all accounting related activities and is filed for easy retrieval.
•         Monitoring fixed assets and depreciation schedule.
•         Maintaining records and preparing necessary schedules for annual audit and tax return. Working with COO/Sr. VP of Finance and external accounting firm in completing the annual audit and tax return.
•         Evaluating internal systems, procedures, and risks, and providing recommendations.
•         Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
•         Perform other duties as assigned by the COO/Sr. VP of Finance.
 
Education and Experience Required: Candidates must possess a four-year undergraduate degree; four to six years of related work experience; knowledge and competency in accounting principles; and proficiency in Excel and other accounting software (knowledge of Sage is a plus). A keen interest in higher education reform is desirable. Compensation will be based on experience.
