Get Out to Vote Intern

The Jacksonville Urban League in partnership with its National Urban League Affiliate is organizing support to help broaden the electorate and to reclaim the vote for Black and other minority Americans. Interns will assist in building, organizing, and managing volunteers that are interested in increasing voter turnout. Among other duties the interns will: 
  • Devise and implement effective strategies to implement civic engagement plans on college campuses, community events, faith-based and other community organizations.  
  • Help craft and execute effective tactics to increase voter participation and work to hit goals that elevate the status of our campaign work. 
  • Conduct and/or attend in-person community and virtual events to increase voter awareness 
  • Using social media, work to inform Black and Minority Populations of the need to register and vote. 
  • Attend electronic get-out-the-vote system training, use and train volunteers on the use of such systems 
Goals: 
  • Increase voter registration 
  • Increase get-out-the-vote volunteer pool  
  • Educate citizens on their right to be engaged with by the municipal government and for their voice and needs to be reflected in resource allocations 
  • Enhancing confidence in and understanding the process of community engagement 
 
Requirements: 
  • Resident commuting distance to JUL 
  • Student for graduate student in local college or university  
  • A commitment to making a difference on get out the vote campaign work 
  • Strong organizational abilities 
  • The ability to engage others, whether one-on-one or in a group 
  • The ability to think strategically 
  • Strong writing and communication skills 
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms
