2023 Intern Research – Exploratory Math Sciences Sr Researcher

Your Role and Responsibilities
Start and end dates for this Internship are during Summer 2023 (12 weeks) at IBM Research. At IBM Research, we invent things that matter to the world. And looking to the horizon, we are placing big bets on a pipeline of ambitious exploratory science breakthroughs which will be foundational for the future of computing. We are driven to discover. With more than 3,000 researchers in 12 labs located across six continents, IBM Research is one of the world’s largest and most influential corporate research labs.
The Exploratory Mathematical Sciences program at IBM Research is seeking candidates who will contribute to foundational research topics in Applied and Computational Mathematics, and Theory of Computation.

Candidates should have basic knowledge in one or more of the following skills:
Candidates should possess one or more of the following:
• A background in Applied Math and/or Theoretical Computer Sciences with graduate-level studies in
topics including optimization, complexity analysis, geometry of data, linear and multi-linear algebra, theorem-proving based program synthesis, algorithmic game theory, numerical analysis and scientific computing, dynamical systems, stochastic optimal control, inverse problems, applied probability, and statistics.
• Graduate level experience in conducting research in one or more the above topics
• Track record of co-authoring technical reports and publications
• Programming experience in scientific computing, computational math, and/or high-performance computing

Candidates must be willing to work in any of the following locations:
At this time the hope is to have the program in person in which case candidates would need to work in one of the following locations: USA (Yorktown Heights, NY, Almaden, CA; Cambridge, MA), Ireland (Dublin), Israel (Haifa), Japan (Tokyo), or Switzerland (Zurich). Pursuing a graduate degree in an area related to Applied and/or Computational Mathematics, or Theoretical Computer Science is required.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Candidates should possess one or more of the following:
