Associate Consultant

About the Job

The Red Hat Consulting team is looking for an Associate Consultant to join our Customer Success team as part of our Consulting Launch Program. In this position, you will play a key role as a passionate promoter of the adoption of Red Hat's solutions for our customers by using your technical expertise, software development skills, and interpersonal skills. 

As an Associate Consultant, you will guide customers in building large technology infrastructures that are scalable, optimally managed, and adaptable to technological improvements using Red Hat technological solutions. You’ll need to have a balance of solid technical experience, passion for open source, thorough understanding of business processes, and of the ability to identify and solve issues at the enterprise level.

You will join the Red Hat Consulting Launch Program (CLP), designed for early career consultants to provide training and development of their technical and consulting skills. The program will guide you along your Red Hat journey in phases that focus on building your foundational skills, customer field readiness, and establishing your brand. You will use your technical and interpersonal skills to help our enterprise customers better manage their Red Hat assets through discovery and analysis with Red Hat’s solutions.  

Additionally, you must be willing to be based out of one of our geographical regions (Northeast, Southeast, Central or West) and live within and have easy access to a major airport. Regional preferences and regional based offers are given on a first come first serve basis that aligns to our business needs. While we will try to align candidates to their first preference, we cannot guarantee that their offer will be based on their first preference.

What you will do:

  • Be a Red Hat subject matter expert at the customer site, addressing their technical, developmental, and strategic IT requirements 
  • Through delivery, directly impact customer software specifications, designs, testing, and deployment of open source solutions
  • Respond to customer challenges, project escalations, and process exceptions in a professional and flexible manner within a dynamic environment
  • With Red Hat project teams, balance technical implementation and delivery with customer expectations

 You will grow into this role by working through the following phases:
Months 1-3 (Build Phase):
 

  • Learn technologies and consulting skills to enhance your abilities through enablements designed and taught by Red Hat Consulting experts through in-person training and certification opportunities, examples include: RHCSA, Openshift Containers and Kubernetes, etc. 
  • Gain exposure and collaboration with the larger Red Hat Customer Success organization through everyday networking and community events
Months 4-6 (Launch Phase):
 

  • Continue learning and growing through observing consulting experts in their day to day client project work to allow you to become a Red Hat expert and a trusted adviser for customers
  • Apply skills learned in the Build phase on your first customer project to tackle problems in an innovative way as a contributor supported by Red Hat delivery teams. 

Months 6-9 (Climb Phase):

  • Increasing independence in delivery on customer projects as a technical contributor through expertise on Red Hat’s technologies and software development principles
  • Continuous learning and growth in both technical and non-technical skills to create a well-rounded base for future career paths

Months 10-18 (Flight Phase):
  • Continue expanding your network, both internal and external, to Red Hat through communities, customers, meetups, and a whole host of other opportunities
  • Grow your career through combining your personal talents and passions with the skills you’ve learned and establish your personalized career and development plans

What You Will Bring

  • Practical experience with at least one coding or scripting language. Examples include but are not limited to Java, Python, C++, YAML, Bash, Javascript, React, etc.
  • Familiarity with backend software development methodologies, frameworks, and development principles. Examples include but not limited to: Agile, Code Management (Git), Software Development Life Cycle, etc.
  • Interest in diving deep into backend software development, IT automation, CI/CD, DevOps, and cloud infrastructure
  • Ability to be well-organized in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Comfortable with continuous collaboration to derive innovative solutions
  • Ability to interact directly with customers across roles and organizations and clearly communicate technical and non-technical concepts
  • Learn quickly, grow, and adapt to new skills
  • Willingness to travel up to up to 60-70% to customer locations, based on current customer demand, throughout the United States and Canada, following Red Hat’s COVID-19 guidelines
