Photography & Communications Internship

Right now, there are 1,700 children waiting for adoption in Massachusetts foster care. Join our team to help us find adoptive homes for each and every one of these kids in need of a permanent family.

Description

Are you looking for communications experience? Join a 60+ year-old non-profit dedicated to child welfare and adoption. MARE develops public awareness and recruitment programs to inform the public about the children who wait, and who can adopt from foster care. We use these programs to attract potential adoptive families and then help them navigate the adoption process. These programs also serve to recruit adoptive families for specific waiting children.

This is a rigorous internship where you will focus on capturing and telling stories about children in foster care, families who adopt from foster care, and adopted youth. This role is ideal for communications or photography students looking to get into the field. You will interview families and youth, take photographs, and create content for MARE's website, social media, and general communications. You will also contribute to our social media management, press relations, email marketing, and media production.

Expected Tasks
  • Travel to various sites across Massachusetts
  • Take high-quality photos
  • Write stories and vignettes
  • Edit photos in Photoshop or Lightroom
  • Engage with MARE's social media audience
  • Write social media posts
  • Help manage press relations
  • Organizational and administrative tasks for the communications department
  • Other communications tasks, as assigned.

This internship will extend from September 2023 - May 2024. This role does require access to a vehicle - either a personal vehicle or a reliable rental service like Zipcar. This internship is unpaid but we do reimburse for travel expenses.

Interns are expected to be available 10-15 hours a week.
