Job Location: This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Parks located at Felix Valle House State Historic Site, 198 Merchant Street, Ste Genevieve, Missouri. Shifts may vary with the time of year and in order to meet the needs of the facility. Schedule will change depending on holidays, emergencies, and special events.

Felix Valle House State Historic Site is a unique site that offers a chance to travel back to Missouri’s early French roots. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with the newly established Ste. Genevieve National Historic Park. The state historic site partners with the National Park Service as well as other groups to transport visitors to the rich and vibrant French colonial past through history, architecture, and other engaging experiences.
What you’ll do:
  • Position serves as the senior level manager to manage all aspects Felix Valle House State Historic Site.
  • Oversee the visitor service operation at the site which could include retail operations, interacting with the public, providing tours of the historic site, and organizing programs/events
  • Supervise, train, guide and lead the team at the park which includes two full time and various part-time seasonal staff
  • Ensure the buildings and grounds are properly maintained and operational.
  • Steward the cultural resources at the site ensuring that they are preserved and protected
  • Oversee the administrative operation of the site which includes revenues, accounts payable, budget management and monthly reporting
  • Ensure the facility is in compliance with all applicable safety guideline, laws, policies and procedures and permits.
  • Coordinate with National Parks and other organizations on various aspects of operations.
All you need for success:
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university can include: Anthropology, History, Historic Preservation, Business of Public Administration or related field AND 5 or more years of management, supervision and participation in interpretation, preservation, protection, maintenance and enhancement of state parks and historic sites (Substitutions for additional education or experience may be allowed)

  • Ability to operate a vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license
  • Available to work nights, weekends, holidays, evenings, and split shifts. Must work two weekends a month year round.
  • Available to participate in meetings, workshops and seminars requiring overnight stays
  • Must be able to walk long distances on uneven terrain in all kinds of weather and environmental conditions and have the ability to lift 25 pounds
  • Ability to provide leadership and supervision to team
  • Artifact handling experience
  • Training, certification, and/or education in continuous process improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma as well as completion of Missouri Way, Leadership Academy, and similar programs is preferred.
