Transportation Civil Engineer/Transportation Engineer 1 District 8

ODOT’s Transportation Civil Engineering (TCE) Program offers Engineering college graduates a great opportunity to begin, or continue, their career in the Civil Engineering field. The TCE Program provides a thorough introduction to the department’s core engineering disciplines with hands on training in all concentrations of Civil Engineering. ODOT engineers develop traffic models, environmental mitigation documents and create construction plans for upcoming roadway, bridge, culvert, safety, drainage and other projects. ODOT engineers are in the field overseeing projects being constructed. Whether it is a simple roadway resurfacing or the construction of a new bridge, ODOT engineers make sure contractors follow specifications so all projects are properly built. ODOT engineers develop simple and complex traffic management designs, manage ODOT’s motor vehicle fleet and oversee winter operations, a function that is critical to keeping Ohio’s economy moving forward. TCEs are provided 12 months experience & training with a Professional Engineer in the department’s core engineering disciplines: Construction, Design, Planning and Highway Management. Training opportunities include: GEOPAK Micro[1]station, Surveying/CADD, Project Manager Training, Bridges, Safety, plus hundreds of other training options. Upon successful completion of the 12 month TCE Program & passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, TCEs can advance to the next level of the Engineering series.
ODOT’s Southwest Ohio District 8 Capital Programs Administration is responsible for cradle to grave capital project asset management of the District’s 4,700 lane miles of pavement, 1,400 bridges, and 7,100 culverts and is one of the larger ODOT Districts. The District is responsible for work in urban, suburban, and rural locations offering a broad spectrum of opportunities for engineers. Current opportunities in District 8 include:
 
  • Engineering Office: This position will work in the District’s design section under the direction of a Senior Design Engineer. Specific duties will include preparing plans for a broad spectrum of transportation improvements including routine maintenance projects, intersection upgrades, roadway reconstruction, and drainage improvements.
  • Construction Project Administration: This position will work throughout the District supporting physical construction project monitoring under the direction of a Senior Project Engineer. Specific duties will include assisting Project Engineers in the various aspects of contract
 
Qualifications – External: Bachelor's degree in engineering; Accepted for Basic Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE exam) by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors.
