Summer Teaching Fellow

Breakthrough Manchester's mission is to launch promising Manchester middle school students, particularly those who are traditionally underserved, on the path to college while inspiring the next generation of high school and college leaders and educators.

The Breakthrough Summer Teaching Fellowship is a rewarding and rigorous paid teaching opportunity. Whether you have always dreamed of teaching in a classroom or are considering it for the first time, teaching at Breakthrough will help to prepare for a career in education while building skills that are transferable to any profession. You will receive extensive training, continuous support, and the opportunity to lead a classroom through a lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This is your opportunity to develop as an educator and leader through a hands-on immersive fellowship.

Qualifications
  • While you need to enjoy working with middle school students, you do not need to be an education major
  • Complete and pass a criminal background check
  • You must be a current high school junior or senior, or college student
  • Must be available and present for all programming days
COMMITMENT
  • Leadership Orientation: June 8-9, 2023
  • Full Staff Orientation: June 12-23, 2023 *June 19 Holiday
  • Summer Program: June 26 - August 4, 2023 *July 4 Holiday
  • Wrap-Up: August 7-11, 2023
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Receive extensive training, continuous support, and the opportunity to lead a classroom
  • Commit to social justice and equity work
  • Solo-teach two sections of academics daily
  • Work with a given curriculum (flexible) and lesson plan
  • Co-teach an extracurricular course
  • Advise and mentor a small group of students over the course of the summer
  • Serve on a committee
  • Work alongside other exceptional college students from across the country to plan and teach classes
  • Lead field trips and community-wide activities
  • Attend weekly professional development workshops
  • Have fun!!
STIPEND & HOUSING
  • Housing may be available for out-of-state students.
  • Base living stipend of $1,700, plus a potential $1,300 AmeriCorps Educational Award
  • Teaching Fellows are eligible to apply for additional financial assistance up to $2,000
  • Fulfill school internship or volunteer requirements
