Environmental Enforcement Officer

Overview
How much does the protection of Vermont's natural resources matter to you? The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation is looking for a committed, passionate professional to join our team of dedicated environmental enforcement officers (EEOs) to aid in the investigation of alleged violations of Vermont's environmental rules, regulations, permits and statutes. EEOs are the front-line interface with the public in making sure that environmental rules and regulations are understood, ensuring that violations are corrected when they occur, and navigating complex compliance issues as they arise. EEOs are not only skilled investigators and communicators in the field but also skilled office professionals collecting and documenting evidence and reports to support the findings of their investigations.

Work is accomplished both in the field, often times in adverse weather conditions, as well as in a home office setting. A successful individual for this position must possess a strong moral character, effective communication skills with diverse members of the public, an ability to operate with a high degree of independence, and a passion for protecting environmental and human health. This position is to cover the Northeast Kingdom environmental enforcement district, which covers Orleans, Essex, and Caledonia Counties, and requires living and working within the district in a home office. A home office allowance is provided for this position as well as a state vehicle for traveling in the field. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief Environmental Enforcement Officer.
