Summary
This Direct-Hire position is in the Food and Drug Administration and is located in the Micro Surveillance/Diagnostic Program, Office of Scientific Coordination, National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR) which primary mission is to support in the areas of bacteriology, virology, mycology, and parasitology, with the responsibility for monitoring the microbiological condition of the various animal colonies and facilities at the NCTR.

Duties
  • Investigates, evaluates, and recommends any new or modified test procedures reported for isolation and identification of microorganisms from specimens.
  • Performs administrative duties such as verification of data and reports, preparation of survey summary, quarterly and final reports for ongoing short-and long-term studies.
  • Maintains the overall efficiency, material stocks, and media levels of the laboratory and the operation and care of unique laboratory equipment.
  • Assists in the presentation of detailed microbiological evaluations on quarantine, breeding, and test animals, as well as environmental and dietary needs of the animals within the programs.

Qualifications
The position of Biologist falls under the 0401 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-12/13, you must meet Time-in-Grade requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 10/03/2022.

Basic Requirements
A. Have a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (You must submit your transcript(s) that demonstrates this coursework at time of application submission)

B. Have a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (You must submit your transcript(s) that demonstrates this coursework at time of application submission)
