Position: Middle School Literacy Coach
Position Type: Teacher Coach
Location: Watertown Middle School
Reports to: K – 8 ELA/SS Coordinator; Principal
Affiliation: WEA Unit A
Salary range: Per Contract

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities may include:

  • In collaboration with coordinator and teachers, map curriculum aligned closely to MA frameworks
  • Collaborate with the ELA/Social Studies Coordinator & 7-12 ELA Coordinator to develop research-based interventions/curriculum for Tier 2 Response to Intervention and supplemental resources
  • Lead in-district, embedded professional development
  • Provide student-centered coaching including in classroom modeling
  • Non-evaluative literacy coach to teachers, conducts regular coaching cycles and supports common planning
  • Facilitate literacy data conversations and meetings
  • Attend grade level meetings related to literacy, as needed
  • Attend outside professional development and relay information to colleagues
  • Partner with curriculum coordinator, data/assessment analyst, teachers, in ELA, Social Studies, or Reading curriculum mapping, assessment creation, and data analysis
  • Assist teachers with implementation of i-Ready diagnostic assessment as well as online instruction

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Evidence of ability to work collaboratively with teachers and administrators to set high academic and instructional expectations
  • Familiarity with best practices in literacy instruction, and is comfortable modeling instruction when needed
  • Holds the belief that all children can learn and be successful in literacy

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • A current Massachusetts Teaching License/Certification
  • Three or more successful years of experience teaching middle school students, preferred
  • Owns a passion for literacy teaching and learning
  • Degree in English preferred
