Senior Environmental Scientist (Permitting)

RES is looking for a Senior ENvironmental and Permitting Specialist with at least 7 years of experience for our Houston, Texas office.
 
The mission: RES is operating in a unique and young industry, and you will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shape it with your work! Armed with knowledge of the existing local, state, and federal environmental permitting processes, you will support the negotiation process with the agencies on ecological restoration and compensatory mitigation projects.

What your day-to-day might look like?

 
70% of the time you will be working on technical documents, proposals, and project coordination. Working with our team consisting of project managers, ecologists, stream designers, land agents, and construction managers, you will be drafting and reviewing technical documents and reports for submittal to agency representatives. You will also be assisting client solution managers meet with clients and prepare proposals. Be ready to showcase your technical writing skills during the interview!
 
20% of your time you will be conducting site visits – you will be assessing land for suitability as ecological restoration sites, observing construction and vegetation planting activities, monitoring restoration sites for success, and giving tours of restoration sites.
At the office, you will be accessing state and federal databases to extract specific. Be ready to talk about your knowledge of data collection methods during the interview process!
 
10% of your time you will be communicating with agencies – you will be attending interagency review team meetings, hosting agencies on site tours, and responding to comments on technical documents. Be ready to talk about your knowledge of the agency review process!

Qualifications


We would love to speak with you if you have many of the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Ecology, Restoration Ecology, Environmental Policy, Planning, or closely related field
  • 7+ years of experience in compensatory mitigation planning, environmental permitting, jurisdictional determinations, and technical report writing
  • Knowledge of environmental policy and regulations including those under the Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 404 and supporting documentation 
  • Ability to interpret stream and wetland restoration design plans
 
What will make you stand out?
  • A Master’s Degree in a Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or any other related field
  • Experience with:
  • Geomorphology data collection and processing.
  • Conducting ecological assessment (TXRAM, iHGM)
  • Performing wetland delineations, stream determinations, vegetation surveys and/or hydrological monitoring.
  • ArcMap, RiverMorph, Hoboware, statistical programs such as R Project, and/or other data processing software
