Regulatory Health Program Coordinator

The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) regulates the manufacturing, marketing, and distribution of tobacco products. Our goal is to reduce the harm from all regulated tobacco products across the entire population, including: reducing the number of people who start to use tobacco products, encouraging more people to stop using these products, and reducing the adverse health impact for those who continue to use these products. CTP's actions have significant public health and consumer protection impact and are among the most important issues faced by the Agency in its long and distinguished history.  

This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Tobacco Products (CTP), Office of Science (OS) located in Beltsville, Maryland.

Responsibilities/Job Duties:
  • Supports senior scientists and regulatory reviewers by gathering and analyzing requested information for a variety of programs and projects.
  • Performs work under the guidance of and will assist higher graded Regulatory Health Program Coordinators and technical staff in non-routine and progressively responsible health-science related program and project duties.
  • Prepares draft letters to applications regarding administrative and regulatory issues based on input from the review staff.
  • Coordinates and monitors the scientific and technical review of routine submissions of tobacco product-related information and projects assigned.

Qualifications:

The position of Regulatory Health Program Coordinator falls under the 0601 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-7/9, you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 09/30/2022.

Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.

Minimum Qualifications:
Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must demonstrate one year of full-time work experience , or the equivalent if part-time (for example, an employee working 20 hours per week for a 12-month period should be credited with 6 months of experience.) Experience may have been obtained in either the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations.

GS- 07: You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05, in the Federal service, which includes: performing health-science related program duties under the guidance of higher graded staff; and planning and coordinating review activities.

Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.). S.A.A. is based on: Class standing in upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision; GPA of 3.0 or higher out of 4.0 based on 4 years of education, or based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; GPA of 3.5 or higher based on the average of all the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society that meets the minimum requirements of the Association of College Honor Societies (except for freshman honor societies) (You must submit your transcript(s) that demonstrates this coursework at time of application submission).

Education -- One year of graduate level education in a field that is directly related to Health Sciences or Allied Science appropriate to the work of this position from an accredited college and/or university.

-OR-

A combination of specialized experience and education as described above that, when combined, equal 100% of the total requirement.

GS-09: You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07, in the Federal service, which includes: experience in planning and coordinating review activities; and applying the knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to scientific and regulatory project activities.

Master's or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field that is directly related to Health Sciences or Allied Science appropriate to the work of this position from an accredited college and/or university.

-OR-

A combination of specialized experience and education as described above that, when combined, equal 100% of the total requirement.
