Job Purpose
The Assistant Director of Student Success (ADSS) reports to the Associate Dean of the Honors College. Works with the Director and Associate Director of Student Engagement to implement the Honors First-Year Experience. Coordinate with the Associate Dean to ensure a sustainable and effective 4-year advising and mentoring program for Honors College students; including carrying an advising load, creating, and managing co-curricular opportunities, assisting in summer orientation, and maintaining academic databases that are key to student success. Provide support to the Associate Dean on curricular and assessment tasks.
Minimum Requirements
Master’s degree in any academic discipline represented at the College of Charleston and 3-5 years of demonstrated excellence as an advisor or mentor. Priority will be given to persons with who have worked with students in an honors college in the areas of teaching, advising, and curricular and co-curricular programming. Experience with first-year programming and data management highly desired. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population of academic and staff colleagues across disciplinary and departmental boundaries; ability to navigate student management software systems as well as Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and survey software (Qualtrics, Google); ability to accurately and effectively guide a diverse student population in their academic, professional, and civic development; ability to analyze data and create reports. Must possess sound judgement and initiative and be able to work independently to identify, develop, and implement program goals and activities that align with the strategic plan of the Honors College and the College of Charleston. Excellent writing, organization, and time management skills.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
This position is a 40 hour per week job; however, must have flexibility to occasionally work extra hours on the weekends and evenings to supervise programming activities and to attend key events for the Honors College.

Responsible for maintaining and updating core student databases, running academic progress reports, and tracking graduation. Under the guidance of the Associate Dean, analyze data and create reports associated with assessment, retention, and enrollment management.

Advise ~100 Honors College students each year and function as a core member of the honors advising team which includes participating in summer orientation. Provide co-curricular opportunities for advisees.

This includes managing and teaching the units directly related to advising, experiential learning and student success.
