Group Leader (Square Roots)

The Group Leader is a part-time professional committed to representing Castle Square Tenants Organization, Inc. (CSTO) in a manner that aligns with the mission and goals of CSTO. Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Group Leader plans and implements classroom curriculum, communicates information to families and teachers and maintains a safe, healthy, warm, engaging, and attractive environment. Group Leaders are responsible to help students develop and strengthen academic, social skills, and cultural competency by providing academic tutoring and enrichment programming. They are responsible for the supervision and management of a group of up to 13 youths between the ages of 6 to 12.
COVID-19 Response: During the length of the pandemic, there will be additional policies, protocols, and training to ensure the safety of our team, youth, and community.


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Create a welcoming and positive environment by:
  • Taking initiative to include all program participants
  • Speaking to program participants at eye level
  • Being friendly, warm, and affectionate
  • Using appropriate voice and tone
  • Treatment of youth with dignity and respect
  • Plan, execute, and document educational, recreation, and arts activities for school aged youth on a weekly schedule.
  • Effectively manage assigned classroom by maintaining and enforcing progressive discipline policy.
  • Communicate with youth’s parents to update them on progress as needed.
  • Supervise youth to ensure safety and appropriate behavior and manage transitions smoothly.
  • Oversee Assistant Group Leader and delegate tasks appropriately.
  • Maintenance of professional attitude and appearance.
  • On-time (punctual) attendance at work, all staff meetings, and training programs.
  • Participate in at least five hours of professional development per year.
  • Participate in a Staff Performance Review bi-monthly.
  • Be comfortable with using online platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft, Google Drive/Classroom
  • Attend program field trips
  • Plan and participate in program community events
  • Abide by established EEC-SACC policies, procedures, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Complete additional health and safety training provided by OSHA, EEC, CDC
  • Adhere to all sanitation and cleaning protocols set by OSHA and EEC requirements
  • Perform additional responsibilities/tasks given by the Program Coordinator and Director (remains flexible)

Minimum Qualifications and Desired Experience:
 
·       Must be at least 18 years old, High School Diploma or GED
·       Meet EEC requirements for Group Leader: https://www.mass.gov/doc/verification-of-school-age-work-experience/download
·       An annual physical confirmed by a physician’s statement, including documentation of 2 MMR immunizations.
  • C.O.R.I and S.O.R.I. checks required
  • Should be sensitive to the feelings and need of others, be able to relate well with staff, youth, and parents, and have a caring and friendly personality
  • Previous experience providing classes/programs/activities for youth
  • Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and collaboration with diverse groups of people; ability to and provide/receive constructive feedback
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Expected to commit for one full school year, August to June
  • Bilingualism preferred
