Overview

The Mind Research Network (MRN), a subsidiary of the Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute (LBRI), is currently seeking a Research Operations Manager to provide and oversee a diverse range of activities within the MRN research operations department.
 
The Research Operations Manager provides and oversees a diverse range of activities within Research Operations for MRN, which requires specialized knowledge and comprehensive administrative, organizational, and operational skills. Participates in operational planning and coordinates the development and administration of institutional operating research policies and procedures. Contributes to the overall success of the department by effectively communicating with a wide range of constituents such as the executive team, department managers, Principal Investigators, collaborators, research participants, community groups and federal agencies.
 
Will plan and coordinate the development, implementation, and execution of a multitude of simultaneous research projects and initiatives to achieve the overall mission, goals and objectives of the organization. Administration of all aspects of research operations including new study initation, IRB/study protocol reviews, coordinating special meetings, events and training programs; developing and managing databases; completing progress reports, budget justifications, research/business/service contracts, and requisitions; and performing all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned. Related duties will include monitoring progress towards goals and guidelines, assigning responsibility for a variety of project aspects to other staff, summarizing progress for decision makers when requested, and providing overall training for project objectives and deliverables for associated staff.
 
The Research Operations Manager will also assist MRN leadership with daily and strategic operational needs to include coordination of facilities maintenance and space planning, overseeing petty cash accounts and disbursements, training and orienting all new employees, developing and implementing departmental policies, and performing other related duties. Will be the primary point of contact for a number of internal departments to include Information Technology, Accounting/Contracts, Institutional Review Board and Human Resources.
 
May also assist with the daily operations of the MRN administrative staff and will identify staffing needs and available expertise, provide leadership and mentoring to all department staff, direct the recruiting and selection process for all departmental positions, and work with the Human Resources Department as needed on performance evaluations, training and development of staff.

Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline, Business Administration or related field and a minimum of 5-7 years of directly-related expertise in human/clinical research studies/administration; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
 
The Research Operations Manager position requires specialized knowledge and comprehensive administrative, organizational, and operational skills, along with demonstrated participation in operational planning and coordinating the development and administration of institutional operating research policies and procedures.  
 
Must have a sound and fundamental knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to human subject research as well as previous demonstrated experience and success in project management principles, practices, techniques and tools. Previous experience in budget development, oversight and cost control procedures is strongly desired.
 
Requires a professional demeanor, strong analytical, time management, and organizational skills, and excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills. Must have demonstrated success in working independently as well as a part of a team, and the ability to work against firm deadlines. 
 
Must have professional-level computer skills and advanced experience with Microsoft Office, previous demonstrated experience with relational databases, and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed. 

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

CCRP, CIP or related research/IRB certification is strongly preferred. If applicant does not have a current clinical research certification, applicant must meet requirements to apply for certification upon hire, and obtain the certification within a year. 
 
Expertise in scientific protocol and consent form writing/editing, as well as working with IRBs for protocol management across the study lifecycle.  
 
Research ethics and GCP training.
 
Demonstrated expertise in technical and scientific writing.
 
Previous supervisory experience.
