Middle School Teacher - Valor Academy

Teachers will facilitate student learning through the hybrid classroom model and in the online curriculum platform ensuring students achieve academic success. The teacher will create and maintain an equitable educational atmosphere for all students that encourage and promote effective student learning as well as school goals and programs. The teacher will use blended-flipped learning to personalize the education of their students by communicating with them on a consistent basis as outlined in the current teacher expectations.

Essential Duties:
  • Takes ownership for student’s academic progress and attendance, communicating high expectations and showing active interest in student’s achievement
  • Prepares students for high stakes standardized tests
  • Maintain open availability to be coached on a regular basis with administrators
  • Under guidance from principal, augments course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate hybrid/ flipped learning models; Use technology in the teaching/learning process
  • Submits grades, as scheduled, and required student work ensuring student academic honesty and integrity; Maintains grade book
  • Makes placement and promotion decisions by generating formal and informal reports regarding student progress, alerting administrators to concerns about student performance and progress
  • Understand the hybrid learning model and be able to effectively work with groups of students in various modes (i.e. digital courses, face to face instruction, station rotation, and targeted instruction)
  • Understands State Board of Education grade level standards and how to utilize the standards as cornerstones for project-based learning and flipped learning activities
  • Create and maintain an opportunity for all students to learn in a supportive environment
  • Create and maintain a positive, orderly, and academically focused instructional environment
  • Provide classroom management and discipline that always ensures safety
  • Provide communication and support to students and parents daily via through a variety of tools: phone, messaging, text messaging, and emails
  • Evaluate student progress and provide individualized instruction and feedback
  • Work collaboratively with special services to modify curricula as needed for students, such as Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) and other related mandates
  • Post a daily announcement in each course that motivates the students to participate in the daily lessons
  • Manage the discussion board in each class to encourage participation and learning in the online classroom
  • Meet expectations as outlined in teacher training and the Teacher Expectations and Guidelines
  • Participate in professional development and department meetings, as scheduled
  • Assist with administering standardized assessments
  • Establish rapport with students/parents
  • Direct students to necessary resources including teachers, tutors, admission’s staff, guidance support, etc.
  • Monitor and oversee student access to the Parent Student Portal and any other appropriate websites
  • Properly document issues, concerns, and important information concerning students/parents as they present themselves; encourage students to maintain attendance and academic expectations
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies aligned with instructional objectives, in order to meet the needs of all students
  • Additional duties deemed appropriate by the building principal

  • Demonstrate innovation in the use of technology as a tool in a variety of curricular areas
  • Design engaging lessons that incorporate technology
  • Craft, deliver and model engaging student-centered learning experiences
  • Embrace a culturally diverse environment
  • Know and be proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Adapt to change while conveying professionalism
Job Qualifications and Licensure:
  • Hold an Teaching Certificate or Long Term Substitute Certificate from the State of Ohio Department of Education 
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher (required)
  • Teaching experience at the middle school education level (preferred)
  • Successfully pass fingerprint, background and any required checks at the time of employment
  • Endorsement to teach in one or more of the following subjects (preferred) Science, Math, Special Education.
