Director of Operations

Job description:
Under the direction of the Institute Of Disability Director, this position develops and manages the implementation of strategic and operational activities related to the Institute on Disability. This position will serve as a member of the IOD Management Team and collaborate with the Director on policy, procedural, and operations issues related to the day-to-day management of the organization. The Director of Operations will provide supervision to key operational roles in the IOD including communication, HR, and office management.

  • Communications: Support the development and execution of the IOD’s communications and marketing plan including hiring/supervising related staff, managing budgets, oversight of website(s), establishing policies, standards, and procedures, and serving a point of contact for organizational communications.

  • Operations: Manage the staff, budgets, resources, and operations of the IOD’s communications, technology, and eCommerce infrastructure and provide general support and guidance to IOD staff/faculty on administrative and operational issues.

  • Technology: Manage the development and execution of the IOD’s technology plan including hiring/supervising related staff, managing budgets, and establishing policies, standards, and procedures.

  • UCED Grant: Participate in the development of the IOD’s University Center of Excellence on Developmental Disabilities (UCED) grant submission including stakeholders needs assessment, grant writing and submission in compliance with federal RFP. Participate and facilities organization wide reporting on activities related to identified goals including the annual and five-year reports and oversee the required data collection for the National Information Reporting System (NIRS)

  • Office Management: Provide oversight of all IOD office locations including liaison with UNH (Durham), and lease negotiation/implementation (Concord). Provide regular hiring/supervision and coaching support for the Durham and Concord office managers. Ensure that both offices are fiscally and operationally sound. Serve as a point of contact for UNH/USNH for office/space needs.

  • Personnel/Human Resources: Manage the IOD’s implementation of all UNH HR procedures. Supervise IOD HR liaison staff and support related faculty/staff in understanding and implementing UNH HR requirements. Provide key leadership and oversight on employee onboarding. Work in close partnership with IOD Director of Business and Administration to coordinate UNH compliance

  • Training Lead Organization wide training initiatives on professional skill development, disability related, UNH and UCEDD focused topics. In partnership with the IOD management team develop, coordinate and lead IOD wide meetings including but not limited to IOD meet-ups, lunch and learns, and all staff meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Management, Marketing, or related field and five years of experience.
  • Experience leading the communications efforts for organization; public relations experience.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all faculty/staff.
  • Experience and understanding of grant writing and grant management.
  • Demonstrated experience and success as a leader and supervisor.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Marketing research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills
