Public Health Nurse HepC Program

Job Responsibilities
*Newly licensed nurse grads are encouraged to apply, this part-time position does allow for shift flexibility. Monday-Friday hours, no weekends or holidays.*

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) are on the rise and have increased for the fifth year straight. Personal Health Services is a program designed to reduce the incidence and impact of STIs by increasing access to STI education, testing and treatment. Public Health Nursing is a calling for nurses that look to make a positive impact in population health at a community level.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will use their educational background to complete disease investigation on Hepatitis C, link patients to Hepatitis C treatment as well as provide clinical services for Kent County Health Department’s PrEP program aimed at reducing the incidence of HIV. 

Duties will include obtaining personal and medical history, performing assessments and testing, education, treatment and epidemiological follow-up on reportable communicable diseases such as sexually transmitted infections and HIV. Actions may include, but not limited to, educating and counseling patients, family members, close contacts and partners on disease information, transmission, testing, and prevention methods as well as referring patients and their contacts to seek follow-up treatment, case management and other social services, as needed. 

Work Schedule: 

2022 Starting Wages:  
$27.11 - A Step: Associate Degree in Nursing with 36 months or less experience as a Registered Nurse.
$28.11 - B Step: Associate Degree in Nursing with 37 months to 60 months of experience as a Registered Nurse.
$29.35 - C Step: Bachelor of Science in Nursing with 36 months or less of experience as a Registered Nurse; or Associate Degree in Nursing with 61 months or more of experience as a Registered Nurse.
$30.31 - D Step: Bachelor of Science in Nursing with 37 months or more experience as a Registered Nurse.  


Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a National League of Nursing accredited nursing institution and current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan is required. Computer literacy, including working knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet, database management are essential skills. Additionally, exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to be highly efficient while ensuring attention to detail is required. Must interact positively and professionally with internal and external customers, and members of the general public from widely divergent cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Ability to provide client service from a culturally aware and client driven perspective, and deliver excellent customer service to all clients while following HIPAA guidelines is essential. 

Desired experience includes:
Experience in testing and treating sexually transmitted diseases.
HIV certification.
