PCDC, a nationally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and community development financial institution (CDFI), catalyzes excellence in primary care through strategic community investment, capacity building, and policy initiatives to achieve health equity. PCDC helps primary care practices improve delivery of care by providing affordable capital as well as a variety of training and technical assistance services. Since its founding in 1993, PCDC has partnered with over 4,800 practices in nearly 40 states, and has leveraged more than $1.3 billion to improve care in low-income communities.
Position Overview
PCDC seeks a part-time Spring Semester Public Policy Intern (10 - 14 hours per week) to support our Strategy and Public Affairs unit. Reporting to the Senior Policy and Advocacy Manager, this internship is an opportunity to gain critical knowledge of current primary care related health policy and legislative issues. Undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in public health and a strong commitment to health equity and racial justice are encouraged to apply, with preference given to those pursuing degrees in public policy, public health, public administration or a related field.
Primary Responsibilities
- Researching timely health policy issues related to primary care at the state and federal level for use in advocacy materials.
- Assisting with the development of collaterals and other public-facing material for primary care advocacy efforts, including but not limited to “one pagers”, white papers or brief reports, public comments and letters, and talking points
- Scheduling, preparing for, and, when appropriate, attending policy meetings with stakeholders
- Tracking and disseminating summary information to PCDC staff about key policy issues and trends affecting primary care and investment at various levels of government
- Assisting in the planning and execution of events to draw attention to primary care policy priorities
- Additional duties as assigned
Required Experience, Education & Skills
- Current undergraduate or graduate student
- Background or interest in health care / public policy
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong writing skills
- Familiarity with conducting informal research (i.e., literature reviews)
- Highly motivated, organized, detail-oriented and able to multi-task
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
To Apply
This is a part-time (10 to 14 hours a week), temporary (February through May), paid internship position . This internship will be primarily remote due to the pandemic, but could include some optional, in-person meetings. Candidates from the New York City will be given preference, but this internship could be fully remote and candidates from the following locations will also be considered: California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, North Carolina, and Washington, D.C.
