Associate Director, International Students and Scholars Affairs

JOB SUMMARY:
Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) seeks a dynamic and progressive-minded individual to join the Office of International Student & Scholar Affairs as the Associate Director. The Office offers support and services to students attending RISD through diligent immigration compliance, cultural and language adjustment, and helping students navigate elaborate US systems, and as such, the Associate Director will act as Designated School Official (DSO) on F1 and an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) on J1 visas. 
The candidate will manage a complex caseload, responsible for overseeing numerous functions essential to the department’s operational health. This includes, but is not limited to: leave of absence and re-admission process for international students; monitoring the legal status of all non-immigrants enrolled at the Rhode Island School of Design; maintaining college compliance with federal SEVIS system; supervising designated OISS staff and interns; and creating and delivering appropriate workshops and programs to enhance learning outcomes and student development. The Associate Director will report directly to the Director of the department and work alongside the International Student Advisors to continuously foster a welcoming environment and provide an unparalleled student experience to those attending RISD from other countries.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience with student immigration, visas, and federal immigration regulations and ability to practically apply and integrate this experience and knowledge to the current situation. 
  • Proficiency with Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) regulations and procedures. 
  • Demonstrated advisory experience and cross cultural sensitivity. 
  • Proven track record of creating programming and situations for international students that add to an enriching experience outside of the studio and classroom. 
  • Ability to lead, guide and mentor others.
