Director of Institutional Giving

Summary:
The Director of Institutional Giving is an important senior member of the institutional team, who oversees daily operations of the department as well as a small portfolio of corporate, foundation, and government donors and prospects for The Philadelphia Orchestra and Kimmel Center, Inc. (POKC).

This position is responsible for supporting the Managing Director in the development and execution of both annual and long-term strategic planning to grow unrestricted and restricted revenue from institutional funders, with a focus on foundation and government funding.
 
 
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day management of the institutional team portfolio for corporate, foundation, and government giving as well as prospects. 
  • Oversees the development of proposals, applications, and reports to foundations and government entities. Generates reports weekly and quarterly to ensure all deadlines are being met.
  • Works with the institutional giving team to achieve approved revenue goals for institutional support; manages and controls related expenses. 
  • Assists in managing the revenue and expense budget. 
  • Works with the Managing Director to identify, solicit, and steward corporate, foundation and government sponsors of the Kimmel Cultural Campus season and series sponsorships as well as the Orchestra’s season and concert sponsorships, national and international tours.
  • Oversees the documentation of institutional giving activities within the Tessitura database (proposals, contact reports, plan steps, relationships, etc.).
  • Works with the Corporate Relations Manager to ensure that all Institutional Giving donor benefit programs are properly coordinated and tracked, including sponsorship packages, pre-concert receptions/dinners, and both print and digital recognition.
  • Attends performances, concerts and events on a semi-regular basis, including evenings and weekends.
 
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a front-line fundraiser. Must possess management experience with proven success in a sophisticated and complex fundraising environment.
 
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Highly organized with long-term planning experience.
  • Interest in and ability to identify new donors and interact with corporate and foundation executives.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with a strong marketing instinct.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and donor database software; Tessitura preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, diplomatic ability, and authenticity in manner and communication.
  • Strong curiosity to explore new funding and relationship opportunities.
  • Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple assignments and priorities.
 
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
Routine for office environment. The employee will be required to perform the essential functions of the job during evening and weekend concerts and/or events. Must be able to travel around the region, country, and internationally, as needed.
