Receptionist/Mailroom Clerk (OA3)

The Opportunity
WSDOT is eager to hire a customer service professional to serve as our Northwest Region (NWR) Headquarters Receptionist/Mail Clerk in Shoreline, a few minutes north of Seattle. As the Receptionist and Mailroom Clerk, we strive to deliver excellent customer service to both WSDOT employees and the public, providing complex clerical support and assistance as needed. This position will also assist with other administrative duties in support of the Administrative Services division and the region.
 
What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Receptionist will:
  • Serve as the Northwest Region Receptionist and will greet visitors and employees, answer multi-line telephone, and refer callers as appropriate.
  • Perform timekeeper duties.
  • Process payments for orders made by the purchasing office for goods and services. 
  • Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers. 
  • Coordinate and assist employees with scheduling use of state vehicles from the motor pool. 
  • Coordinate scheduling conference rooms for employee use. 
  • Provide accurate information to visitors and callers and will transfer phone calls to the appropriate individual or department. 
  • Provide back up to the NWR Public Disclosure Coordinator.
  • Assist Purchasing, Financial Services, and Administrative Services with projects and miscellaneous support duties. 
 
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software to include Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Ability to speak and communicate clearly in order to process a high volume of calls in an expedient manner to assist the public, and to remain calm during high stress situations that may arise from interacting with upset constituents or employees. 
  • Ability to maintain confidential documents and records. 
  • Ability to manipulate up to 50lbs. 
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time
 
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
  • Knowledge of WSDOT departments and field offices, including their functions and locations with WSDOT’s Northwest Region. 
  • Knowledge of Washington State traffics laws and WSDOT vehicle accident reporting procedures. 
 
Important Notes 
  • This recruitment may also be used to fill additional positions per business needs.
  • This position is an in person position and is not eligible for telework.

  • The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County. An additional general wage increase of 3.25% will be applied for all state employees on July 1, 2022.
