User Services Specialist

Job Summary:

​As part of the User Services Department, the User Services Specialist provides patrons with library services and information. The User Services Specialist acts as the primary point of contact to the public, provides basic information and directional assistance, assists users in locating materials, and maintains a welcoming and inclusive environment in the library. Typical job duties include circulation of library materials, management of borrower accounts, maintenance of the library book collection, management of course reserves, processing consortial borrowing requests, and supervision of student employees.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of library, office, or customer service experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to engage with diverse groups of people using tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of library records, student records, and other restricted information.
  • Ability to use technology systems, software, and equipment found in an academic library.
  • Ability to direct student employees. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently under limited supervision.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Three or more years of public service experience in an academic library.
  • Experience with automated library systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, in-person training, or presentations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations.
