VE Labs Summer Intern

VanEck’s Summer Intern Program includes exposure across the firm through educational, mentorship, and networking events. As an Intern, you will also be exposed to the firm’s senior management, gain an understanding of the financial services industry and learn critical business skills. Our internship program will build more than just your resume — it will challenge your knowledge, build your network and drive your career path. The VE Labs Group is one of the newer teams within the IT family. Our mission is two-fold:
1)   Research, Develop and Maintain mathematical optimization routines for the portfolio management teams
2)   Uncover business relevant intelligence hidden in data by creating statistical and machine learning models
The group operates like an academic research group where ideas are openly proposed, debated and ultimately refined into a usable product.
 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Includes the following, other duties may be assigned as needed:
 
  • Academic Research … finding and reading relevant papers
  • Brainstorming … figuring out which methodology to pursue to solve a given problem
  • Prototyping … putting the theory into practice
  • Documenting … writing white papers and journal papers
 
Qualifications  
  • Evidence of original or independent research
  • Experience with mathematical optimization, machine learning and statistical modeling
  • Ability to code in an object oriented language (Python preferred)
  • Good communication skills.
  • Roll up your sleeve work ethic.
  • Professional demeanor.
 
Education and/or Experience                                            
  • Pursuing a MS or PhD in (but not limited to) Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Operations Research or Physics
  • Some experience within a corporate environment is helpful but not required.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Compensation:
  • The maximum hourly rate for this position is $32 an hour.
