HealthMap
HealthMap brings together disparate data sources to achieve a unified and comprehensive view of the current global state of infectious diseases and their effect on human and animal health. This freely available Web site integrates outbreak data of varying reliability, ranging from online news sources, social media, clinical dataset, big data, wearable devices to validated official alerts retrieved from the World Health Organization. Data is aggregated by disease and displayed by location for user-friendly access to the original alert. HealthMap provides a jumping-off point for real-time information on emerging infectious diseases and has particular interest for public health officials and international travelers.

Project details:

·       COVID-19 Social Impact Map is a visualization of social impact events related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The map is hosted on the CDC COVID data tracker, and is fed by HealthMap data. This data helps to identify where and what events are being socially impacted by COVID, including school re-opening’s, business closures, and mass-gatherings.
·       Resistance OPEN is a publicly accessible platform that creates a global map of antimicrobial resistance, based on aggregated publicly-available and user-submitted resistance data, known as “antibiograms”. Antibiotic resistance values are displayed as weighted averages of all submissions within the region of interest so that no individual level data is used and displays graphical representations of resistance for each superbug in the region of interest. ResistanceOpen receives contributions from laboratories, hospitals, health networks and surveillance networks to provide resistance data.
·       Outbreaks Near Me  is crowdsourced syndromic surveillance system that helps track respiratory illness like COVID-like-illness (CLI) and influenza-like-illness (ILI), and complements traditional public health surveillance systems. With over 7,000,000 unique data entries, the platform is able to provide insights on healthcare utilization in relation to ILI and CLI. Participants answer a brief, weekly digital questionnaire about their health that then maps CLI and ILI in their area. Previous research found the speed of this digital approach complements traditional public health surveillance systems, exemplifying successful in capturing community disease. By collecting self-reported information, we will be able to gather a more complete understanding of healthcare utilization, kind of care users receive, and diagnostic testing for respiratory illnesses.
