WLNE-TV/ABC6, the ABC affiliate in Providence, Rhode Island is looking for an experience and energized Chief Meteorologist to lead our StormTrackers weather team, on-air and online.

 

Hurricanes, tornadoes, and blizzards –southern New England gets a little bit of everything!

 

Candidates should have a B.S. degree in Meteorology or Earth Sciences with five to ten years of experience on-air. Top candidates must have superior forecasting and storytelling skills, with the ability to produce easy to understand and informative visuals, maps and graphics.

 

When weather creates even minor inconveniences, disrupts the lives of our viewers, or more significantly threatens their safety, the Chief Meteorologist must be committed to setting the tone for coverage across all our platforms. The Chief is responsible for working closely with news management, producers, and the digital team to execute this weather strategy.

 

Candidates must have a wealth of experience covering breaking severe weather – on broadcast, online and on social media. 

 

To be considered you must provide examples of on-air presentation during severe weather.

 

Qualifications:

- B.S. Degree in Meteorology or Earth Sciences

- 5 to 10 years of on air experience weather casting

- Maintain a steadfast commitment to forecasting accuracy

- Proficient in weather graphics production

- AMS Seal required

- Experience with severe weather coverage, including hurricanes, blizzards, tornadoes, and flooding

- Writes web stories detailing the local forecast on a daily basis

- Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites

- Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.

 

Skills/Experience:

- WSI weather system knowledge

- Ability to produce easy to understand and informative visuals, maps, and graphics for use on air, online and on social media
