Effective the 2022-2023 school year for 3 Math coaches vacancies exist in the Norristown Area School District.

The math coach program is responsible for leading PLC’s, for modeling best mathematical practice lessons, for analyzing student and school-wide data and for providing staff development.  
 
2- Elementary level
1- High school Level
 
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in education
  • Valid and Active PDE Teaching Certification in Math
  • Five years of full-time teaching experience
  • Professional development experience which has involved adult learning
  • In-depth knowledge of math processes, acquisition, assessment, and instruction.
  • Thorough knowledge of the range of effective instructional methods, materials, and practices that can be used at various grade levels.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of math acquisition and development and how they influence planned instruction to meet the needs of students at all levels of mathematical success.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the full spectrum of differentiated instruction processes designed to meet the needs of all students including special education, gifted and English as a second language.
  • Ability to plan, establish priorities and implement instructional activities for maximum effectiveness.
  • Ability to develop and deliver professional development presentations for teachers, administrators, parents and community groups.
  • Ability to assess levels of student achievement effectively, analyze test results, and prescribe actions for improvement.
  • Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.
Essential Job Skills:
Instruction:
  • Demonstrated success in upper elementary or middle level math instruction.
  • Models and demonstrates how to implement the NCTM Essential Mathematics Teaching Practices
  • Models and demonstrates the use of instructional strategies appropriate for teaching students from diverse backgrounds with different learning styles and special needs and which enhance the application of critical, creative and evaluative thinking capabilities.
  • Models and demonstrates how to teach math using the standards for mathematical practice.
  • Works collaboratively with classroom teachers to align instruction to ensure that teaching is congruent with district goals and the instructional framework, is of high quality, researched-based and designed to meet the needs of all students.
  • Collaborates with, and articulates the school-wide math plan to teachers, parents, and other specialized personnel, such as special education teachers, ELD teachers, and counselors.
  • Provides well-coordinated, congruent, and quality support for teachers and students by working in the classroom and in a pullout setting.
  • Provides instructional guidance to aides, volunteer tutors, or paraprofessionals who work in the classroom to assist the classroom teacher in meeting the needs of all students.
  • Provides leadership and support in teaching and integrating numeracy skills in all content areas
 
Assessment:
  • Models and demonstrates for teachers how to administer and analyze various math assessments.
  • Interprets data, including but not limited to standardized and other test results, for diagnosis, instructional planning and program evaluation.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers in the interpretation of math progress monitoring and diagnostic assessments and the development and implementation of an appropriate acceleration program for all students.
  • Implements a school-wide assessment plan to systematically collect and analyze data that informs instruction and documents learning and growth.
  • Supports teachers in using various math assessment tools to identify an appropriate range of math levels for instruction, intervention and enrichment.
 
Leadership:
  • Facilitates a culture of reflective practice
  • Lead PLCs in collaboration for school improvement that is grounded in factors impacting student outcomes (e.g., Common Assessments, Differentiation, Learning Targets etc.)
  • Establish meeting schedule that accommodates members of the PLC
  • Develop meeting agendas
  • Facilitate team meetings to assure that the team is working toward site goals
  • Prepare and report minutes (including attendance) of the meetings
  • Participate and facilitate relevant professional development
  • Maintain records of PLC meetings
  • Assist building administration and instructional coaches in implementing an instructional coaching model
  • Participates in district meetings to learn more about the theoretical foundations that define and structure the components of a comprehensive and balanced math program.
  • Develops curriculum maps, and plans based on district and state instructional requirements, student profiles, and instructional priorities.
  • Works as a member of the school support team to ensure that every teacher is providing rigorous instruction to meet the needs of all students.
  • Works with colleagues to plan, prepare and implement new curriculum projects and initiatives.
  • Leads professional development workshops, model strategies and conduct demonstration or collaborative lessons for teachers.
  • Serves as a resource to other specialized personnel by serving on instructional support teams.
  • Supports teachers – especially new teachers – and administrators in becoming more knowledgeable about the teaching of math.
  • Serves as a resource to promote parental understanding and support for students’ numeracy goals.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

2022-2023 salary schedule, prorated accordingly:
Bachelor's - $50,513 - $53,505 (Step 3)
Bachelor's + 24 - $53,573 to $57,148(Step 3)
Master's - $56,551 to $60,708(Step 3)
Master's + 15 - $58,953 to $63,317(Step 3)
Master's + 30 - $61,354 to $65,928(Step 3)
Master's + 45 - $61,812 to $66,395 (Step 3)
Doctorate/Master's + 60 - $62,267 to $66,862 (Step 3)
