Sr. Manager, Grant Operations
The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a congressionally funded, private, nonprofit grant making organization that works to support freedom around the world, seeks a Senior Manager, Grant Operations within the Grant Operations & Evaluation (GOE) department. This position is based in Washington, D.C.
The Senior Manager, Grant Operations works under the supervision of the Vice President, GOE to coordinate the work of the Grant Operations, and Evaluation (GOE) cone and to oversee the unit’s mandate to serve as a resource for grantmaking information, planning, budget tracking, and reporting and analysis. Primary responsibilities of the position include supporting project management and communication plans for the GOE cone, overseeing priorities and planning processes, and supervising the GrantOps data analysis and support team, with a focus on the development and production of regular and ad hoc reporting and analytical resources for staff, leadership, and external audiences. The position involves coordinating across multiple departments and liaising with internal and external constituencies, including leadership, regional program teams, government relations, public affairs, and core institutes.
Supervise GrantOps support team (currently Program Officer and Program Assistant) with a primary focus on coordination of activities across departments, grantmaking budget tracking, and production of analytical information resources. Responsibilities include:
- Working with the VP-GOE, coordinate and ensure alignment of activities across GrantOps units
- Provide oversight of grantmaking planning and budget tracking, in coordination with regional program leadership
- Supervise production of reporting and analytics on all aspects of the grantmaking program, with a primary focus on program funding areas, trend analysis, storytelling, and planning. Resources to be produced include briefing materials, data visualizations, analyses, projections, and related deliverables on grantmaking priorities and trends.
- Oversee and coordinate management of projects as assigned.
- Other tasks as assigned in support of grantmaking operations.
- A Bachelor’s level education or equivalent experience in foundations, nonprofits or grants management.
- 8 – 10 years of work experience that includes a command of strategic planning, project oversight, and use of data analytics.
- Proficient in the use of MS Office and related skills; particularly Excel and SharePoint.
- Familiarity with data visualization software. Experience with Tableau and Salesforce experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in project management and coordination.

- Interest in international affairs and strengthening of democratic institutions worldwide.
- Foreign language competency preferred.
- Appreciation of the NED’s mission. Related regional, functional, and language capabilities a plus.
- Familiarity with international activities/issues relevant to NED’s operating environment.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
- Strong written and oral communications skills; ability to make presentations in front of groups
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, international office environment.
- Strong relationship and team-building skills.
- Experience supervising people and tasks, including project management and oversight.
- A high degree of organization and initiative, as well as attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task and be able to work independently with little direction.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in a multi-ethnic, multi-national environment, with demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and with discretion.
