Postdoctoral Researcher - Neuroscience

The Oldenburg Laboratory at the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine at Rutgers University is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join an exciting neuroscience project utilizing optical tools to study neural circuits.
Please include your CV, Cover Letter, and contact information for references. In your cover letter please highlight your past research experiences, why you're interested in this position, and your future goals.

More Information:
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Ian Oldenburg, the Postdoc will investigate the role of neural activity in guiding and initiating motor actions. Together with the PI, the postdoctoral researcher will design their own independent project within the mission of the Oldenburg lab.
The lab uses advanced microscopy techniques, including multiphoton holographic optogenetics and calcium imaging in awake head fixed mice, to understand how groups of neurons work together to enact motor actions. By using our novel techniques, we can test different theories of the ‘population code’, gaining a causal understanding of how population activity drives actions.
  • Previous experience with 2-photon imaging, electrophysiology, optical engineering, computational neuroscience, and/or animal behavior will benefit this position. This work is highly interdisciplinary, so many diverse skill sets are useful. Strong technical and analytical skills are preferred.
  • Mentorship is a core mission of the lab. All members of the lab are expected to be helpful and supportive of each other. The PI will endeavor to help each member succeed, both within the lab and in future positions. As such, everyone is encouraged to explore what interests them and to share their specific expertise. Postdocs will be supported in attending scientific conferences.
  • The quality of postdoc life is important to the Oldenburg Lab, CABM, and Rutgers University. We offer numerous benefits, competitive salaries, flexible hours, and a supportive environment.
