Daycare Teacher

POSITION: PRESCHOOL TEACHER
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Day Care Director
MINIMUM PAY RATE: Depends on Experience

POSITION SUMMARY The preschool teacher is responsible for the daily education, care and supervision of children ages three to five years old. Main duties include instructing children in activities designed to promote social, physical and intellectual growth needed for kindergarten. The teacher must provide an emotionally supportive environment showing sensitivity to the individual needs of children in all aspects of development. The teacher is also responsible for ensuring a high quality experience for children and parents that is compliant with all relevant legislation, policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
● Provide a pleasant and safe environment
● Clean and sterilize equipment and toys daily
● Assist children with activities of daily life (e.g., diapering/restroom use, feeding, dressing)
● Implement the principles of child development and preschool educational practices
● Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning needs of each child
● Develop weekly lesson plans that are interactive, stimulating and cognitively engaging
● Observe and document behavior and learning abilities for each child
● Monitor and encourage positive interactions among children
● Develop and maintain positive relationships with children and parents
● Accommodate and comfort children as needed
● Communicate with parents and provide updates on their child’s progress, behavior and health
● Identify behavioral problems and develop appropriate strategies to address them
● Establish and enforce rules of behavior for the classroom
● Create monthly newsletters to inform parents of learning objectives, and provide tools and resources for at-home activities
● Hold parent-teacher conferences and seek to involve parents in their child’s early education
● Supervise and encourage the development of assistant teachers, aids, volunteers and other child care personnel
● Adhere with teaching standards and safety regulations as established by official sources
● Represent Spanish Community Center at community functions and at other events as requested ● Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
● Bilingual in English and Spanish
● Associate Degree in childhood development or some postsecondary education preferred
● Certification in first-aid and CPR
● Possess the ability to work effectively with multicultural participants
● Knowledge of child development theory and practice
● Demonstrate patience and compassion, and exhibit traits of a responsible and attentive person.

WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday - Friday; eight hour shift between 6:30am-6pm
Evenings and weekends
