Policy & Research Intern

The Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth is searching for a Policy & Research intern to support the Commission’s policy & research work through the 2023 Spring semester. Our intern would be expected to assist in editing & formatting the Commission’s FY 2024 Annual Report (due for release at the end of April 2023), as well as general tasks like drafting the policy section of the Commission’s biweekly newsletter, joining policy advocacy meetings, and creating social media content highlighting the Commission’s legislative priorities & recommendations.
 
Interns would be expected to commit to at least 5-7 hours per week, with the possibility of occasional evening or weekend hours. Schedule will be determined prior to the start of the internship based on the intern’s course schedule and/or prior commitments. Position will be overseen by the Commission’s Legislative & Policy Manager from January to May. Position is unpaid, but is eligible for course credit.
 
Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the Commission’s work in research and policy advocacy
  • Interest and/or experience working in the areas of education, health, juvenile justice, and/or homelessness
  • Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community is preferred
  • Experience working on social media or graphic design
  • Experience with Google Workshop & Microsoft Suite programs
 
These qualifications are flexible, and the Commission takes into consideration that experience is gained in a multitude of ways that especially includes lived experience. QTBIPOC, Two-Spirit, LGBTQIA+, immigrant, and disabled youth are strongly encouraged to apply.
