Philanthropy Intern

Philanthropy Internships are flexible opportunities. Projects are ideal for students seeking short-term internships (8-12 weeks). Interns interested in extending their internship may do so after review, up to 12 months.

The Philanthropy Intern provides fundraising support to the development team at at Jameson Camp. In this role you will collaborate closely with the Development Director to develop campaigns that inspire others to empower youth by removing barriers to healthy and vibrant experiences in nature.

Check with your school's Internship Coordinator BEFORE accepting the hiring offer to determine if this position satisfies the criteria for receiving academic credit.


As part of a team of interns, your primary projects will include direct mail campaigns, developing the 2024 fundraising calendar, and creating a new fall fundraiser. These positions are also responsible for aiding in the acknowledgment and stewardship of donors, growing the donor community and aiding in annual grant reporting.

Below is a sample of responsibilities. Project assignments are based on applicant preference and organizational need.

As the creator of the fundraising calendar:
  • Research nonprofit and summer camp industry trends in fundraising.
  • Evaluate existing communications strategy and resources.
  • Make and defend recommendations for improvements.
  • Collaborate with digital marketing interns to ensure calendars are cohesive.
  • Deliver a clear and concise 2023 multichannel fundraising calendar.

As an advocate of donor relationship building:
  • Utilize donor relationship management software (Bloomerang) to build reports.
  • Apply legal and ethical standards in acknowledging donations.
  • Help write reports for grantmaking organizations.
  • Collect data, visuals, and stories to appeal to donors for support.

As a planner of fundraising events:
  • Collaborate to plan a special event, including setting goals.
  • Establish new sponsor relationships.
  • Create and execute a program of events.
  • Develop a donor journey for prospects.

Qualifications
High School Diploma Required.
Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program.
Preference will be given to Philanthropy majors.
