Field Office Director with Environmental Nonprofit

Fund for the Public Interest is a national nonprofit organization that runs campaigns for America’s leading environmental and public interest organizations - and we’re the most effective citizen outreach operation in the country. We’ve raised over $500 million, run hundreds of campaigns in all 50 states, and educated and mobilized millions of people on issues ranging from saving our national parks to stopping the misuse of our life-saving antibiotics by factory farming operations.

We’re hiring Canvass Office Directors to build and lead teams of canvassers that will fundraise and build support for some of our country's most pressing issues - tackling climate change, moving beyond single-use plastics, banning bee-killing pesticides, and more. We are hiring for immediate positions as well as positions starting in the winter.

Being a canvass director requires that you work independently, exercise good judgment and work hard to meet your office’s staffing, campaign and fieldwork goals. You’ll develop communication and leadership skills that will last a lifetime, and you’ll be building the grassroots support it takes to win campaigns.

Apply to work with us if you want to:

  • Educate and engage citizens on campaigns like tackling climate change and moving beyond single-use plastics

  • Build support and fundraise for leading non-profit groups, like Environment America and PIRG

  • Hire, train, and manage your own team of staff -- you’ll interview candidates, make hiring decisions, and train paid canvassers to canvass with you in the field

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who have leadership experience and excellent communication skills, and who want to work hard to make lasting, positive change on important issues.

Training

We have an excellent training program — it’s one of the things for which we’re most widely recognized. All positions have a month-long initial training, most of which is spent working in an existing field office and getting hands-on training. Directors also receive classroom-style training on social change concepts and skills.

Throughout the year, new and experienced canvass directors will participate in advanced training on staff management, canvassing, campaign strategy, and other skills.

Locations

We work on campaigns and in locations that we think will make the biggest difference. We are running campaigns in CA, CO, IL, MA, NM, OR, WA, and Washington, D.C.

Pay and Benefits

The target annual compensation for this position is $35,750-$45,250, depending on location. The Fund offers a competitive benefits package. We also offer an excellent training program and opportunities for advancement. Our benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents, our commuter benefit program, 401(k) with employer match, paid time off and long-term disability insurance. Compensation and benefits may vary based on location and experience. We also offer an excellent training program and opportunities for advancement.
