Manager, Section Officers Conference

Job Summary/General Purpose of Job
  • Principal position responsible for the oversight, management, and day-to-day operations and support of the Section Officers Conference (SOC).

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities (listed in order of importance and/or time spent)
  • Position accountable for supporting member-leaders of the Section Officers Conference and its Executive Committee.
  • Functions as the principal interface between the leaders of the Center for Member Practice Groups and is accountable for ensuring accurate and timely communications and inter- departmental priorities and objectives are shared with the SOC.
  • Provides support to optimize the operations of the SOC and its major functions/activities as well as the entities associated with it.
  • Accountable for the direction, coordination, and operations of all aspects of specialized Association functions that require expertise, sensitivity of political underpinnings, and an ability to flawlessly execute on matters through the use of independent judgement and decision-making.
  • Oversees, directs, and supports all entity committees; recommends course of action or follow-up to each entity chair.
  • Responsible for maintaining the SOC page of americanbar.org and the Member Practice Group Intranet page.
  • Responsible for all aspects of planning and managing a major multi-day conference each year.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Required Education, Qualifications, Experience
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, OR five years directly relevant experience.
  • At least five years’ experience in an operational role within an association, member organization, or non-profit.
  • Intermediate skillset with Microsoft Office suite of products, and prior experience with applications like AEM, Maestro, or Sharepoint.
  • Prior experience overseeing projects or initiatives, experience in meeting planning, professional writing, conducting research, and budgeting.

  • Typical office work environment.
 
Extent of Travel Required in the Job
  • As a normal course of business, this job will typically require travel of less than 15% of the time.
