Environmental Protection Seasonal Resource Assistant

The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is looking to hire a Seasonal Resource Assistant to work in the Forestry Division. This position will be stationed in Hartford, CT with the option of remote work 3-4 days a week.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:
The Urban and Community Forestry program is seeking to hire an EP Seasonal Resources Assistant within the Urban and Community Forestry program. In this role, you will develop and maintain a statewide database documenting relevant stakeholders and resources in each of Connecticut’s 169 municipalities. This is a unique opportunity to work at the state-level to document and assess the current status of urban forestry programs throughout the state while also establishing local contacts at the municipal-level. In this role you will also learn about national urban forestry initiatives including reporting metrics used by the US Forest Service’s Urban and Community Forestry Program.  

Under the supervision of the Urban Forestry Coordinator:
Assists with the creation and maintenance of a state-wide urban forestry dataset.
Conducts outreach to municipal land managers, non-profit organizations, and other stakeholders to document urban forestry resources in each of Connecticut’s 169 municipalities including but not limited to: information on tree ordinances, staffing, management plans, and advocacy groups. 
Develops database to document urban forestry resources by municipality. Enters data on urban forestry resources and maintains state-wide urban forestry database. Creates maps or other visualization tools to assess gaps in programming across the state.
Performs miscellaneous administrative duties: uses computer (write reports, databases, GIS); responds (e.g., written & orally) to correspondence & inquiries; provides recommendations to supervisor & staff on assessment of database to improve efficiency; reviews plans & documents prepared by others.    
This is a seasonal position on first shift. Duration of this position is approximately 6 months, not to exceed 1040 total hours in duration.
